Nottingham canal consists of 23.6 km between Langley and Derbyshire, it was first opened in 1796 to be used but most of the canal was closed by 1937 as the canal transport system was replaced by the train system.

- the canal is now owned by Broxtowe borough council.

Taken in September 1987 these three photographs show work underway on the J. Sainsburys retail unit. In the first of the three photographs a small section of the Homebase unit can also be seen. What looks like extensive woodland in the middle photograph is actually the stand of poplars between the Nottingham canal and castle boulevard. Photographs by Paul Bexon
